Alta U16M 4096 x 4096 9µ - The U16M is a 16 Million pixel imager. At 9u pixel size with a 4096 x 4096 array, the U16M has a field of view which until recently was simply not available at this price for high performance astronomy applications. Alta U9000 3056 x 3056 12µ - The U9000 is the same CCD area as the U16M, but with 12u pixels instead of 9u. How to choose? Choose the largest pixel which meets your needs for sampling with your optical system. Over-sampling (choosing pixels too small for your system) has the effect of reducing your apparent sensitivity, because the light is spread over more pixels. Apogee also offers the Optec IFW filter wheel and Astrodon filters for its medium and small format systems, and is in development on a 50mm Square 5 position filter wheel for the U16 and U9000 systems. Any off axis Guider camera may be used with these systems under MaxIm CCD control.
